Basketball Recap: St. Stephens Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Noah Vanbeurden and Javian White

St. Stephens lost against South Caldwell back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The St. Stephens Indians fell just short of the South Caldwell Spartans by a score of 67-64. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while the Spartans are ranked 71st).

Javian White and Noah Vanbeurden certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. White went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 34 points, while Vanbeurden went 9 of 17 en route to 22 points. White's evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

St. Stephens' loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-4. As for South Caldwell, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Stephens will head out to square off against West Iredell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Iredell will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something St. Stephens surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Caldwell, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against McDowell at 8:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
