The Woodside Wolverines will venture away from home to face off against the Warhill Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Woodside is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Phoebus 24-7 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Jaena Antonia Kay and Kaymen Strothers did most of the damage at the plate: Kay got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, seven RBI, and four runs, while Strothers went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Strothers has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dakaja Hopkins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Woodside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .653. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Phoebus only posted an OBP of .464.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Warhill and York, and Warhill kept the tradition alive. Warhill never let York get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Wednesday. Fans of the Lions have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
The result came thanks to Skyler Wilson's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Warhill let Payton Auerbach - GMU and Mallory Herspold run wild. Auerbach - GMU scored four runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Herspold went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Auerbach - GMU is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keamani Fujimoto, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Warhill's record now sits at 3-0. As for Woodside, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Woodside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .439. However, it's not like Warhill struggles in that department as they've averaged .557. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodside might still be hurting after the 17-0 defeat they got from Warhill when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Woodside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
