The Mingus Marauders will square off against the Coconino Panthers at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Mingus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Mingus is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since February 26th on Wednesday. They fell just short of Eastmark by a score of 7-5. The Marauders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kaden Pusl put in work no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Carter Wacker made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Tanner Brewer, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Coconino and Bradshaw Mountain, and Coconino kept the tradition alive. The Panthers walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Bears on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Like Mingus, Coconino also got a great game from a two-way player: Fitz Guinan. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Guinan is becoming a predictor of Coconino's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 6-13 when he doesn't). Guinan was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Jackson Clouse and Jake Hanley did most of the damage at the plate: Clouse went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hanley went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Coconino is undefeated when Clouse posts two or more runs, but 2-14 otherwise. Junior Stone was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Coconino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Mingus' loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Coconino, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.
Mingus came out on top in a nail-biter against Coconino in their previous meeting on Friday, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Marauders repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
