The Jasper Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 12th straight loss. They were beaten by Lumberton 64-30. Jasper lost against Lumberton in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 66-63 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Jasper lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cecilla Hernandez. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of MyKennah Winchester, who scored three points along with six blocks and three steals.
Jasper's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-15. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.2 points per game. As for Lumberton, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jasper will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on East Chambers at 10:40 a.m. on December 28th. As for Lumberton, they will head out on the road to face off against Orangefield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Orangefield presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lumberton in Texas (Orangefield is ranked 321st, while Lumberton is ranked 980th).
