Chino Valley is 8-2 against River Valley since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will square off against the Dust Devils at 5:00 p.m. Chino Valley has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chino Valley managed to slip by Kingman the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cougars lost 14-6 to the Bulldogs on Monday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Jacob Boivin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Olson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask River Valley). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Highland Prep a 19-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Dust Devils, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Mickey Gonzalez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hunter Koehler, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
River Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
River Valley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Chino Valley, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chino Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like River Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Chino Valley suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to River Valley when the teams last played back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
