Softball Recap: Richland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Campbell

Richland extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 15 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They came up short against the Campbell Camels, falling 30-21. On the bright side, the 21- run performance marked the Rebels' highest-scoring game to date.

As for Campbell, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-22. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23rd (when they won 16-1).

For Campbell's part, Kaitlyn Weidenbenner made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Weidenbenner a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.

In other batting news, Ryann Durham was a standout: she went 5-for-7 with ten RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Monica Serrano, who got on base in all seven of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Richland will head out to take on Meadow Heights at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.24 runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Campbell, they will take on Clarkton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Reindeer have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.64 runs per game on average), something the Camels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
