The Metro-East Lutheran Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Althoff Catholic Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Metro-East Lutheran will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 660th, while Althoff Catholic is ranked 197th).
Metro-East Lutheran was handed a 26-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Dupo on Thursday. Metro-East Lutheran had just enough and edged Dupo out 37-35. The win was just what Metro-East Lutheran needed coming off of a 43-17 loss in their prior match.
Metro-East Lutheran's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Hopp, who scored 12 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle McLeod, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Althoff Catholic lost to Mt. Vernon on the road by a decisive 64-48 margin on Thursday. Althoff Catholic has not had much luck with Mt. Vernon recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Metro-East Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 3-18. As for Althoff Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-10.
Metro-East Lutheran was taken down by Althoff Catholic 54-17 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Althoff Catholic's Emilee Travnicek, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
