The Jefferson City Jays are on the road again on Friday and play against the McDonald County Mustangs. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Jefferson City walked away with it. They had just enough and edged Pleasant Hill out 37-34.
Jefferson City found their leader in underclassman Zach Barnes, who rushed for 174 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry.
Another reason for the win was Jefferson City's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Kane Fuelling and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, McDonald County came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Bolivar 40-21.
Jefferson City is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for McDonald County, their win bumped their record up to an identical 8-4.
