Softball Recap: Mount Vernon's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Mount Vernon has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.54 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They fell 11-6 to the Rains Wildcats. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Cameron Pope was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Brihana Walker was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Mount Vernon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.

Mount Vernon's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 20-5-1. As for Rains, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-9-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Vernon will challenge Chisum at 6:00 p.m. on the 8th. As for Rains, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Rains Wildcats take on Commerce Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on the 8th.
