Conant is 8-2 against Schaumburg since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cougars will take on the Saxons at 4:45 p.m.
Conant came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 10-3 to Fremd. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Conant saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dani Gemmell, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Schaumburg made sure to put some runs up on the board against Batavia on Saturday. The Saxons blew past the Bulldogs 13-2. The victory was some much needed relief for the Saxons as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Madison Linnemann made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Linnemann was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Schaumburg got a massive performance out of Jordan Murtaugh, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Murtaugh has posted since back in April. Taylor Dolecki was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one double, and one RBI.
Schaumburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .645. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Schaumburg's record is now 7-13. As for Conant, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Conant hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Schaumburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Conant came out on top in a nail-biter against Schaumburg in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
