The result came thanks to Charley Butler's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wakulla's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cylie Long, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Lincoln gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Taylor County, sneaking past 6-5.
Gabbi Coulter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits. Those hits were her first of the season.
On the hitting side, Ava Lawless was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleigh Eikeland, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Wakulla's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.
Lincoln's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Wakulla has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lincoln, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Wakulla keep running through batters, or will the Trojans buck the trend?
Everything went Wakulla's way against Lincoln in their previous meeting back in March, as Wakulla made off with a 15-0 victory. Do the War Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
