Baseball Recap: Vincennes Rivet Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Vincennes Rivet ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over the Wood Memorial Trojans. The Patriots have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Trojans, too.

Nash Ransom made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-6.

In other pitching news, Cooper Stricklin looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Vincennes Rivet got a massive performance out of Jayden Thacker, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Thacker a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Hunter Bilskie, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-6.

Vincennes Rivet kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wood Memorial only managed five hits.

Vincennes Rivet's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Coming up, Vincennes Rivet will face off against Loogootee at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wood Memorial, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against South Knox at 6:30 p.m. The Trojans are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
