The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts won the last time they faced the Rio Rico Hawks, and things went their way on Thursday too. Mica Mountain snuck past Rio Rico with a 48-44 win.
It was another big night for Isabella Webb, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. She hasn't dropped below 15points for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Mathie, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Despite the loss, Rio Rico still got an impressive performance from Angelina Whelan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Whelan has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Natalia Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring four points along with ten rebounds and five assists.
Mica Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Rio Rico, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mica Mountain will face off against Amphitheater at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Kayla Tuakalau and Webb. As for Rio Rico, they will head out on the road to take on Walden Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Walden Grove: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Rio Rico has snatched up nine consecutive wins on the road.
