If the St. Edmund Prep Eagles were feeling good off their 47-21 takedown of Notre Dame of Manhattan on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. St. Edmund Prep was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 38-37 to Cardinal Spellman.
MacKenzie Palisi and Priscilla Long certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Palisi scored 16 points along with six assists and four steals, while Long dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Long scored a full 27% of St. Edmund Prep's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
St. Edmund Prep bumped their record down to 4-2 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.8 points per game. As for Cardinal Spellman, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Coincidentally, St. Edmund Prep and Cardinal Spellman will both be playing Kennedy Catholic the next time they take the court. St. Edmund Prep will host Kennedy Catholic at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Cardinal Spellman will head out to face them at 1:30 p.m. on February 13, 2024.
