Island Coast is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They are taking a road trip to take on the Port Charlotte Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Island Coast is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Island Coast will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Miami Beach on Thursday. Island Coast's pitcher stepped up to hand Miami Beach a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Bobby Wilenius tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Hawkins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brandon Tuduri, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Island Coast was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February.

Meanwhile, Port Charlotte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Mariner.

Port Charlotte's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Island Coast, their record is now 14-5.

Island Coast's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. Island Coast has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game.
