3A Conference 9 recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 9 this week, North Forsyth beat Southwestern Randolph 28-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Ledford scaled the state rankings by moving to 134 from 165 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Panthers were able to move up by topping Southern Guilford 38-35.
Desmond Mabe was a passing and rushing force as Central Davidson bested South Rowan.
Mabe was the best running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 129 yards as the Spartans lost to North Forsyth. Teammate Marquez Stiller added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
Leading 3A Conference 9 in both passing and receiving yards, Western Guilford's Tevan Evans and Keenen Stevens have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Evans has thrown for 1,067 yards this season, while Stevens has 32 catches for 537 yards. The Storm's Reggie Gallaspy leads the league in rushing yards with 1,448.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place North Forsyth takes on second place Ledford. Last week, Pete Gilchrist's team beat Southwestern Randolph, while Ledford defeated Southern Guilford.
Central Davidson's Mabe is a mere 92 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 163 carries Mabe has accumulated 908 yard this year.
Danny Akins' team lost to the Vikings 28-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lynch in the loss.
