Even though the Central Heights Vikings scored an imposing 61 points on Monday, the Iola Mustangs still came out on top. Iola narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Central Heights 64-61. With that victory, Iola brought their scoring average up to 53.5 points per game.
Iola can attribute much of their success to Landon Weide, who scored 22 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cortland Carson, who scored 18 points.
When it comes to explaining why Central Heights lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ethan Rowan. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Laiken Brockus was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Iola and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Central Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Iola is on the road again on Thursday and play against Kansas City Christian School. Kansas City Christian School will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 355th, while Iola is ranked 78th). As for Central Heights, they will be playing at home against Lebo at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
