Basketball Recap: Sabine Pass Takes a Loss

Sabine Pass dropped down to 10-2 on Thursday, ending the team's eight-game streak of wins. They had to suffer through a 76-41 loss at the hands of the Orangefield Bobcats. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while the Bobcats are ranked 180th).

Devin Roberts and Cohen Cole certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Roberts posted 14 points, while Cole shot 50% from the field to rack up 13 points and five boards. Roberts has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played.

As for Orangefield, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Jaden Scales was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-13 from beyond the arc en route to 49 points. Those 49 points gave him a new career-high. Rylan Agerton was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Sabine Pass has already played their next matchup, an 80-44 loss against Livingston on the 12th. As for Orangefield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-60 defeat against Nederland on the 12th.
