The York Dukes will face off against the Glenbard West Hilltoppers at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. York is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
York came into this matchup off a tough nine-run defeat on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Downers Grove North by a score of 3-1 on Monday. The Dukes haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Sara Steinecker was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles.
Meanwhile, Glenbard West sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Lyons on Monday.
Olivia Salerno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ainslie Bobroff was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Emma Eltzroth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Glenbard West hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lyons struck out eight times.
Glenbard West pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for York, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.
York's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Dukes have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Glenbard West, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will York continue to outrun the ball?
