The Sonora Wildcats waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They strolled past Argonaut with points to spare, taking the game 56-41. That's another feather in the cap for Sonora, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Jonathan Curran was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Roger Edwards, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Argonaut's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mitchell Mcmahan, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Ryan Duran who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 36.6% of Argonaut's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Sonora's win was their 16th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Argonaut, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Sonora will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Calaveras at 7:15 p.m. Hopefully Calaveras focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. As for Argonaut, they will head out on the road to face off against Summerville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
