Elida is 1-9 against Wapakoneta since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will host the Redskins at 5:30 p.m.
Friday just wasn't the day for Elida's offense. They lost 10-0 to Defiance on Friday. Elida's defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Meanwhile, Wapakoneta got themselves on the board against Kenton on Friday, but Kenton never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Drew Bailey made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Griffin Mericle, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Grant Jolly, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Wapakoneta's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Elida, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Elida has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wapakoneta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Elida couldn't quite finish off Wapakoneta in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
