The Sparta Academy Warriors fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Pickens Academy Pirates on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 60-53 to the Pirates. Sparta Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Pickens Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Sparta Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Robinson, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Sam Cook, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Sparta Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Pickens Academy, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-3.
Sparta Academy is on the road again on Friday and play against Clarke Prep at 5:30 p.m. on December 29th. Clarke Prep comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Pickens Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Heritage Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Christian Academy is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
