The Richmond Raiders entered their tilt with the Union Pines Vikings with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Richmond blew past Union Pines 73-40 on the road. Given Richmond's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Union Pines is ranked 284th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richmond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madisen Jackson led the charge by scoring 24 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season. Jamyia "Juicy" Lindsey was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.
Union Pines' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Erin Frey, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Taryn Pekala, who scored eight points along with two blocks.
Richmond pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Union Pines, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.
Richmond will square off against Trinity Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Trinity Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Union Pines, they will be playing at home against Hoke County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Hoke County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Wednesday.
