After a string of four wins, the Rocky River Pirates's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 50-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Avon Lake. While losing is never fun, Rocky River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Shoremen are ranked 22nd).
Despite the loss, Rocky River still got an impressive performance from Ava Patti, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 55.3% of Rocky River's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Rocky River's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Avon Lake, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3.
Rocky River will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully North Olmsted focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday. As for Avon Lake, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Comets at 5:30 p.m.
