Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Spruce Creek's 12th in Last 13 Outings

Spruce Creek lost to Deltona back in April of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 9-2 win. Considering the Hawks have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Aubrey Yeary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Spruce Creek got a massive performance out of Mackenzie Colby, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Colby has posted since back in April of 2024. Keylee Gerhardt also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Spruce Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deltona only managed seven hits.

Spruce Creek has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Deltona, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spruce Creek will venture away from home to challenge Eau Gallie at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Deltona, they will take on Lake Mary at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
