The Richmond Bobcats will take on the Old Orchard Beach Seagulls at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Richmond is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Richmond is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Greenville a 13-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Bobcats have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kenny Mecham made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ben Fournier and Cody Fournier did most of the damage at the plate: Ben went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Cody went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Zaden Steele, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Richmond always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenville only posted an OBP of .067.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Old Orchard Beach ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against Buckfield by a score of 18-14. The victory continues a trend for the Seagulls in their matchups with the Bucks: they've now won eight in a row.
Richmond pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Old Orchard Beach, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Richmond came out on top in a nail-biter against Old Orchard Beach when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Seagulls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
