Houston is a perfect 4-0 against Calhoun City since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Houston Hilltoppers will square off against the Calhoun City Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Houston's offense. They lost 16-0 to Center Hill on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Hilltoppers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Houston saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Tedder, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Monday. Calhoun City blew past Houlka 15-5. Calhoun City hasn't had any issues with Houlka recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Hank Ruth made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He also put up two hits, which were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Jay Moore was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Zawon Edwards, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.
Calhoun City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Houston's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Calhoun City, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Houston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Calhoun City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Houston's way against Calhoun City in their previous matchup on Tuesday, as Houston made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Houston since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
