The New Iberia Yellowjackets waltzed into their match Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They greeted the New Year with with a 56-41 victory over Mamou. Given New Iberia's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Mamou is ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Iberia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wayne Randall-bashay, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Another player making a difference was Otis Anderson, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
New Iberia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Mamou, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.
New Iberia and Jennings will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Jennings has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 217 points over their last three matches. Mamou is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Westminster Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Westminster Academy is on a four-game streak of home losses, Mamou a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
