Baseball Recap: East Wake Academy Extends Winning Streak to Five

East Wake Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They put the hurt on the NCSSM: Durham Unicorns with a sharp 15-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 12 contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Lane Collier made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, James Duffield was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Dexter Benton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

East Wake Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as NCSSM: Durham only posted a batting average of .250.

East Wake Academy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for NCSSM: Durham, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, East Wake Academy and NCSSM: Durham will both be playing Falls Lake the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Firebirds at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Unicorns will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
