In what's become a running theme this season, the Crossroads Christian Colts gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 55-16 victory over Lee Christian. Given Crossroads Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Lee Christian is ranked 563rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elyssa Phillps continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 3 assists. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Mattie Grissom was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Lee Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Elayna McFarland, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks, and Madison Mashburn who scored seven points along with six rebounds and four steals. McFarland is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lee Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Crossroads Christian posted 11 assists.
The win makes it two in a row for Crossroads Christian and bumps their season record up to 10-4. As for Lee Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crossroads Christian will take on Carolina M at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Carolina M focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. As for Lee Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cresset Christian Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
