On Friday, the Coolidge Colts faced the Jackson-Reed Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coolidge skirted past the Tigers 43-40. The victory was nothing new for Coolidge as they're now sitting on four straight.
Josslyn Derricott continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 20 points, 11 rebounds, and ten blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Jackson-Reed saw an underclassman step up: Noa Gordon dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Gordon continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kryslynn Stewart was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Coolidge is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Jackson-Reed, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coolidge will take on the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Ballou and the Colts are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Jackson-Reed, they will head out on the road to take on the Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
