The San Clemente Tritons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 21 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Irvine with a sharp 58-33 win on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for San Clemente who now have three in a row.
Porter Hansen was his usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. The game was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Whidden, who scored six points along with three steals.
Several Vaqueros players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaesang An, who scored ten points along with three steals. Taewon Kim was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Irvine struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as San Clemente pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
San Clemente is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Irvine, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Clemente will stay at home for another game and welcome Laguna Beach at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Dylan Mceachern and Hansen. Irvine will be home for the holidays to greet Whitney at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
