If the Lake Havasu Knights were feeling good off their 37-17 takedown of the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lake Havasu took a serious blow against Desert Edge on Wednesday, falling 50-17. While losing is never fun, Lake Havasu can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Desert Edge is ranked 107th).
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lake Havasu struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Desert Edge pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Aysja Ward, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and five steals for Desert Edge. Ward has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Monica Orozco, who scored four points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Lake Havasu has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Desert Edge, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-10.
Lake Havasu will head out on the road to take on Desert Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Havasu is facing Desert Mountain at the right time seeing as Desert Mountain is stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Desert Edge, they will be playing at home against Verrado at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Verrado is coming into the matchup with three straight wins on the road, meaning Desert Edge will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
