The Pueblo Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 59-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sahuaro. Pueblo found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Pueblo had strong showings from America Cazares, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and Madison Williams, who scored seven points along with seven steals. That was a full 40% of Pueblo's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Espinoza, who scored five points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Sahuaro had a senior duo take command as Cassandra Coolidge scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and Ny'Anza Brown scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Coolidge pulled down eight or more rebounds. Kristen Valdez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Pueblo has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for Sahuaro, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 17-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pueblo will face off against Canyon del Oro at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sahuaro won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th.
