The Lenoir City Panthers were the 77-69 winner over the Stone Memorial Panthers when they last played one another back in November of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. Lenoir City was dealt a 81-51 defeat at the hands of Stone Memorial on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Lenoir City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Stone Memorial is ranked 41st).
Stone Memorial was led to victory by Cade Capps and Brady Lane. Capps scored 28 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Lane dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Capps' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Wyatt Grothe was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 assists.
Lenoir City's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Stone Memorial, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lenoir City will take on Roane County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Roane County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Lenoir City likes a good challenge. As for Stone Memorial, they will be playing at home against Clarkrange at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
