The Yulee Hornets lost against the Fernandina Beach Pirates back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Yulee fell to Fernandina Beach 55-49. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Yulee in their matchups with Fernandina Beach: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ace Walker, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Walker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Jordan Austin was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Yulee has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Fernandina Beach, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-7.
Yulee will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Episcopal School of Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. As for Fernandina Beach, they will head out on the road to take on Hilliard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilliard is on a five-game streak of home wins, Fernandina Beach a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
