The Ellwood City Wolverine will face off against the Seton LaSalle Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ellwood City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Ellwood City is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Montour just ended the team's six-game winning streak last Monday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 11-1. The game marked the Wolverine's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Ellwood City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Keller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Seton LaSalle ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out McGuffey 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Rebels sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Noah Sear looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Connor Rothhaar and Dom Bresinger did most of the damage at the plate: Rothhaar got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Bresinger went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Norkevicus, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Seton LaSalle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.
Seton LaSalle's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Ellwood City, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ellwood City has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Seton LaSalle struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
