Sumner is 2-8 against Rogers since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Spartans will square off against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Sumner has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Sumner came out on top against Emerald Ridge on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Spartans won by a run and slipped past the Jaguars 6-5.

Josslyn Sorensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Anna Thweatt, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Naya Alastra, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rogers had already won 15 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 16 on Friday. They blew past the Vikings 15-1. Considering the Rams have won seven games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kelsey Vernon was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was MacKenzie Simon, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Rogers kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Rogers' victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sumner, their record now sits at 9-4.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sumner has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Rogers struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sumner couldn't quite finish off Rogers when the teams last played on April 4th and fell 6-4. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
