Port St. Joe is 10-0 against Wewahitchka since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks will play host again and welcome the Wewahitchka Gators, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, Port St. Joe was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-41 to Bozeman. While losing is never fun, Port St. Joe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 488th, while Bozeman is ranked 200th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaden Jenrett, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bj Cole, who scored three points along with 12 rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Wewahitchka's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their tenth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 59-37 loss at the hands of Liberty County. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Wewahitchka has suffered since November 28, 2023.
Tyran Williams was Wewahitchka's leading scorer, having posted nine points.
Port St. Joe's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-8. As for Wewahitchka, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-10.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Port St. Joe have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Wewahitchka, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 threes per game. Given Port St. Joe's sizeable advantage in that area, Wewahitchka will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Port St. Joe against Wewahitchka when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 74-33 win. Does Port St. Joe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wewahitchka turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
