After a string of six wins, the Bluff City Gray Wolves's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Crooked Oak by a score of 44-42. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bluff City has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Bluff City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Asya Wood. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 15 rebounds, and nine steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of London Carson, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Bluff City were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 36 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bluff City's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2. As for Crooked Oak, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.
Bluff City will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Lafayette at 3:30 p.m. on December 29th. Lafayette presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bluff City in their respective states (Lafayette is ranked 49th in Missouri, while Bluff City is ranked 142nd in Tennessee). Crooked Oak won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Whitehaven at 3:30 p.m. on December 29th. Whitehaven has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
