The El Paso Tigers are taking a road trip to face off against the Burges Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, El Paso made easy work of Jefferson and carried off a 10-4 victory. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Silver Foxes recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Camila Caldera, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Selene Acosta, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
El Paso always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only posted an OBP of .387.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Burges, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Andress with a sharp 15-7 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Miley Cardenas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Burges got a massive performance out of Valeria Sanchez, who went 4-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Caroline Herrera was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Burges is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. El Paso's record is now 8-16.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Paso hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Burges struggles in that department as they've averaged .389. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Paso skirted past Burges 5-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Paso since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
