Mechanicsville is 1-9 against Hanover since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Mustangs will host the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.
Mechanicsville took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Varina a 10-0 shutout.
Ella Hagen and Hailey McLaughlin did most of the damage at the plate: Hagen got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run, while McLaughlin got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases McLaughlin has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Riley Christian, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Mechanicsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Varina only posted an OBP of .316.
Meanwhile, Hanover waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Mavericks 10-1. Considering the Hawks have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaileigh Byars was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Byars was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaycee Doughty, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Hanover's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Mechanicsville, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
