The Berthoud Spartans put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 56-9 victory over The Academy. The result was nothing new for Berthoud, who have now won seven matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Alex Larson, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Berthoud's win was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 The Academy and 2-6 Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 31.4% over those games). As for The Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Berthoud will be playing in front of their home fans against Steamboat Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Steamboat Springs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Berthoud is ranked 42nd). As for The Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Eaton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
