Winning is just a little bit easier when you make seven more threes than your opponent, a fact the Berkeley Stags proved on Friday. They took down Wando 56-41. That's another feather in the cap for Berkeley, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Berkeley found their leader in underclassman Madison Thomas, who scored 20 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Amani Mccray was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Wando's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mya Andrus, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three steals. Andrus has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Eikenberry, who scored nine points.
Berkeley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Wando, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-12.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Stratford the next time they take the court. Wando will head out to face Stratford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Berkeley will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
