The South Aiken Thoroughbreds will head out on the road to square off against the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Aiken is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
South Aiken was handed a two-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Airport on Thursday. South Aiken put the hurt on Airport with a sharp 51-26 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win South Aiken has posted since November 24, 2023.
South Aiken can attribute much of their success to Sumara Williams, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kearstin Grant, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Aiken's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lexington.
Aiken's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Norriyah Bradley, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Malasia Jamison who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bradley has scored all season.
South Aiken's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Aiken, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
South Aiken was able to grind out a solid win over Aiken in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 46-39. Does South Aiken have another victory up their sleeve, or will Aiken turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
