Among those leading the charge was Jake Garrigan, who threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Bunnell's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bunnell's defense and their three sacks. Daniel Yirenkyi refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Carson Clarke was another major factor on D, making ten total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Pomperaug's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 21-14 to New Fairfield.
Although Pomperaug took the loss, they still got scores from Jack Guinipero and Dane Guinipero.
Pomperaug's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Bunnell, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Bunnell has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 204.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pomperaug struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 258.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Bunnell against Pomperaug when the teams last played back in November of 2022, as the squad secured a 49-0 win. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
