Vanessa Brown and Aubrie Deschaine did some serious damage despite the final result: Brown went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Deschaine went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Deschaine's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Franklin Heights lost 17-4 to Grandview Heights on Monday.
Kelsey Lehman was cooking despite her team's loss, earning one run and three stolen bases. Coralyn Knight was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Whitehall-Yearling's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Franklin Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18.
Franklin Heights' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Whitehall-Yearling has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Franklin Heights, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Whitehall-Yearling keep running through batters, or will the Falcons buck the trend?
Whitehall-Yearling skirted past Franklin Heights 17-16 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
