The Meade County Green Waves will head out to face off against the DuPont Manual Crimsons at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Meade County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Meade County is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Floyd Central just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Green Waves have suffered since March 25th.
Meade County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Buchanan, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, DuPont Manual entered their tilt with Sacred Heart on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with an 11-7 win over the Valkyries.
Hailey Kincaid was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Fetcher, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Sophie Bynum, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI.
DuPont Manual kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
DuPont Manual pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Meade County, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Meade County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like DuPont Manual struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Meade County came up short against DuPont Manual when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Green Waves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
