Softball Recap: Petoskey Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Petoskey hadn't done well against Traverse City West recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Northmen were the clear victors by a 14-8 margin over the Titans. Considering the Northmen have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lyla Janes made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Petoskey got a massive performance out of Francesca Pool, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Pool has posted since back in March. Kaitlyn Speigl was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Petoskey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Traverse City West only posted a batting average of .290.

The win (which was Petoskey's fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Traverse City West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.

Coming up, Petoskey will venture away from home to square off against Cadillac at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.33 runs per game on average), something the Northmen will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Traverse City West, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Richmond at 4:15 p.m.
