Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Hazlehurst's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Hazlehurst unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 44-26 to the Lawrence County Cougars. The Indians were down 39-19 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Leading Lawrence County to victory were Addie Pennington and Alayasia Owens. Pennington posted ten points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Owens dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Owens has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Carleigh Barnes also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Hazlehurst's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Lawrence County, they moved to 6-9 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Hazlehurst wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 12-0 defeat against Florence on the 15th. As for Lawrence County, they will venture away from home to challenge Jefferson Davis County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
